Nancay

This village of more than 800 inhabitants, which belongs to the “small towns of character” of the Cher, is located in the southern part of the Sologne, surrounded by splendid landscapes of moors and interspersed with numerous ponds and forests.
It is a typical village of this region, with its charming old houses that harmoniously combine brick, stone and wood. Many artists and craftsmen have taken up residence there and exhibit their work in the former stables of the castle.

The shortbread of Mrs. Henriette Fleurier.
They are a reminder of childhood snacks. In 1953, the young Jacques Fleurier made a mistake in the composition of a recipe. Not wanting to waste, Mrs. Fleurier transforms the dough into a cookie that she offers for tasting to the inhabitants of Nançay, who appreciate it.
The little shortbread was born. Mr. and Mrs. Jacques Fleurier made it their hobbyhorse by developing its sale first in their store in Nançay, then outside. The current success of the Nançay shortbread is due to the fact that its manufacture remained artisanal, based on a 50 years old know-how, which confers to the shortbread an exquisite savour, memory of flavours of former days.

The fame of the small dry cake contributed to the birth of other stores around the village square.
Antique dealers, craftsmen, shopkeepers of original gifts, porcelain, stones, scents, ready to wear, art gallery animate all year long Nançay, where it is good to escape.

Stores open every weekend.

Not to mention For the kids.
