Around our campsite in the Loire Valley, many activities are offered to you!

On the Loire River

The boats of the “mariners of the Loire”, cabanées and futreaux bring to life the banks of this charming river and the proximity of the Briare canal and its famous bridge-canal reinforce the attraction for “water” activities with its boat rides and the passage of the locks; in the same way, the site of the Mantelot lock in Châtillon sur Loire, classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is added to the sites that are a must-see
The Etang du Puits (30 km away) is a very popular water sports and swimming area in summer.

Gastronomy on the banks of the Loire

When we talk about gastronomy, we think of well known wines (Sancerre, Coteaux du Giennois, Pouilly, Menetou-Salon etc…), cheeses (Crotins de Chavignol), famous sweets (Tarte Tatin, Sablés de Nancay, Croquets de Sancerre et du Berry…) we also think of fish (Pikeperch of the Loire) or game (in season).

The fishermen will know how to find the “good spots” either in the Loire or in the numerous ponds of the surroundings where one can fish “by the day”.

Which Loire castle to choose?

Chenonceau castle, Chambord castle etc.

The Loire region is known for its majestic castles: the castle of Chambord, Chinon, Lucé, Chaumont sur Loire, or the castle of Chenonceaux, the castle of Cheverny? The Loire Valley is one of the most beautiful regions of France and a popular tourist destination.

You can also walk from our campsite to discover Gien and visit the castle overlooking the Loire!

Our castles are a little less known than the great castles like Ussé, Amboise, Azay Le Rideau. To discover them, it is possible and only 1h30 from our campsite Gien. The famous castles of the Loire Valley are yours, their names alone make you dream: Chaumont castle, Amboise castle, Villandry castle, Blois etc.

Camping Gien and its castle

Gien, “pearl of reconstruction” for its architecture, is also famous for its Faïencerie (Museum and factory store) and its castle. The castle of Gien is the first red brick castle of the Loire Valley which houses, among other things, the Hunting Museum with its famous trophy room and its frame in the shape of an upturned boat hull. The church, also completely rebuilt in red brick, is worth a visit.

Which Loire castle to visit from camping Gien?

More accessible and less touristy, the Loire castles around our campsite in the Loiret are worth a visit.

Our Gien campsite is ideally located, in front of the castle of Gien, but also near many buildings and castles of the Loire, with different styles and different periods. Near our campsite, you can visit or admire many castles:
