Châtillon Coligny
Flowered village of Loiret one flower. Homeland of the ” COLIGNY ” and the ” BECQUEREL ” refuge of the first writings of COLETTE. Châtillon-Coligny has a population of 3,000 (with Ste Geneviève des Bois) and is located 23 km from Montargis and 135 km from Paris. Châtillon-Coligny is crossed by the Loing and for four centuries by the Briare canal.
The landscape is made up of fertile, fairly wooded plateaus, interspersed with the valleys of the Long and its tributaries. Its countryside offers exceptional hunting and fishing grounds.

In the old town: Church of the 16th and 17th centuries, and its separate bell tower built on a defense tower (14th century) Old Hôtel-Dieu (12th century porch) hosting the three-star museum “classified as a Museum of France”. rich; of archaeology (furniture of Celtic and barbarian tombs, etc…), of history (The Coligny, the Wars of religion, many writings, paintings), of sciences (all on the works, the discoveries and the life of the 4 physicists Becquerel), the House of the XVIth c., (Hell, Paradise, Salt storehouse).walls, moats and towers of defences (XIVth c.). Park of the Coligny castle with : the orangery (the oldest in France), the well ” Jean Goujon ” and the staircase ” de Condé ” of the Xth century, the keep (XIIth century) and the cellars of the old castle, finally, the tomb of the Admiral Gaspard II of Coligny who died during the St Barthélémy.
